Juliana has spent the past three years hiding and playing cloaked archer on her land because of her murderous uncle. The last thing she wants is to get involved with a nobleman, but Sir Colin is different…A Daring Sacrifice by Jody Hedlund is a twist on the traditional Robin Hood.
My Review of A Daring Sacrifice
Table of Contents
Juliana played the role of the Cloaked Bandit because that was the only way she knew how to take care of the peasants on her land who had been displaced because of her uncle’s tyranny. She had become convinced every member of the nobility was evil (an interesting lie to believe considering that she herself is a member of the nobility). When she meets Colin, she is forced to rethink her beliefs because he’s nothing like she expected him to be.
The Characters in A Daring Sacrifice
Colin was a decent man. I liked the way he was willing to consider Juliana’s opinions. I wish he had given his sister the same courtesy but then if he had things wouldn’t have played out how they had.
At the beginning of the novel, Juliana was reckless. She did a lot of things that she should have thought about beforehand. She knew people depended on her but at the moment, she sometimes allowed herself to get caught up in things that would have been better avoided.
I liked how the two characters tempered each other. Juliana pressed Colin to be better to his people and Colin caused her to be a bit more thoughtful.
The Themes in A Daring Sacrifice
There was a strong theme of sacrifice in A Daring Sacrifice (but I guess that was obvious from the title). Both Colin and Julianna made a decision to make a sacrifice for those they cared about.
This theme of sacrifice was interwoven with the question of what love costs. Readers are reminded of the great love and sacrifice Christ made on their behalf even as they ponder what great sacrifice they would be willing to make on behalf of those they care about.
About A Daring Sacrifice (An Uncertain Choice #2)
The only thing harder than fighting for what’s right…is fighting their feelings for each other.
