The Armor of God: A Bible Study for Tweens and Parents in Today’s Spiritual Battle by Catherine Bird is a Bible study for teens to do with their parents. It is an in-depth look at Ephesians 6:10-18. Each chapter begins with a look at the focus verse, putting it in the context it was written and making the connections to the reader’s situation.
Each chapter ends with a sitrep (situation report) that should be used to ensure that the reader understands the concepts covered in the chapter.
Chapters also include a craft project and letters from the battlefield (letters written by other teens who have experienced spiritual warfare).
This is a good book for parents to go through with their children to teach them the concepts of spiritual warfare. Ms. Bird includes relevant examples so that tweens and parents can visualize what spiritual warfare may look like in a modern school environment.
Armor of God can also be used a group study and includes materials that may be used to facilitate an eight to nine weeks group study. The facilitator section provides a guide on how to conduct meetings and includes activities related to the week’s chapter that may be used to cement the lesson in participants’ minds.
Favorite Quotes from the Armor of God
There were so many quotes from this book that resonated with that to share them all would be overwhelming.
Here are five of my favorite Armor of God quotes.
Our truth comes from God and the revelations he shares with us through his infallible Word. What does this mean exactly? It means that truth is not defined by our own subjective standards; it is determined by the Source of truth himself. God’s truth is our foundation, and it is rock solid.
Jesus is the truth. Jesus does not simply tell the truth; he defines what truth is. Jesus is the personification of truth. When we say that truth can change our lives, we are saying that Jesus can change our lives .
Our belief in God is reflected in every decision we make.
You are part of God’s plan. Way before you drew your first earthly breath, God already loved you.
Remember Satan cannot steal your salvation. His mission is to distract, divide, and destroy— pretty much to make the lives of Christians as miserable as possible to keep us from doing the kingdom work God has called us to do.
I received an advanced reader’s copy from the publishers through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.

About Armor of God: A Bible Study for Tweens and Parents in Today’s Spiritual Battle
Equip Your Child for the Battle Ahead
An invisible, spiritual battle is waging around us, a battle between God and Satan for control of our lives. In spite of God’s truth that the battle has already been won, Satan’s primary goal is to separate us from God and convince us that he holds absolute power over us.
Armor of God unpacks the six pieces of armor that God has revealed as essential tools to defend against Satan’s schemes on earth. Alongside their tween, parents will uncover important truths to better understand the enemy and how he works to ambush, outflank, and outsmart God’s army. Most importantly, parents and tweens will learn to use their God-given armor and employ strategies to defeat the one true enemy. In addition to guided Bible study and “Letters from the Battlefield,” Armor of God includes conversation starters and fun activities that will open a dialogue between parents and tweens and draw them deeply into God’s Word together.
