Author Interview with Sarah Geringer

Today we’re featuring Sarah Geringer on the blog. I love what she considers to be the best writing advice she’d ever received and how it has impacted her life.

Sarah Geringer’s Book & Writing Process

Q: What is the title of your book and what is it about?

A: Hidden Manna on a Country Road: Seeing God’s Daily Provision All around Us, is about taking prayer walks in nature and connecting with God in deeper ways through 40 different prayer prompts.

Publication date: November 1, 2022

Q: What genre is Hidden Manna on a Country Road?

A: Christian non-fiction devotional

Q: What inspired you to write your book, and how did you come up with the idea for it?

A: I needed to take my new puppy on walks. Though I had lived in the country for 15 years I had not seen the closeups of nature until I took those walks. I found so many prompts for prayer in nature, especially during the pandemic, that I wanted to share with the world.

Q: What are some themes that are included in your book?

A: We can connect with God in new ways using prayer prompts we find in nature. This is true whether we live in the country or city because God tucks prayer prompts into places all around us.

Q: Who is the ideal reader for this book?

A: Someone who wants fresh inspiration in their prayer life, especially if he or she is a nature lover.

Q: What’s the one thing you want readers to take away from reading your book?

A: Prayer is not as hard or mysterious as you think. Just go outside, look around, and you’ll see God’s glory in nature. Use these metaphors for prayer prompts in your life.

Q: Share a favorite quote or two from this book.

A: When I am stressed, remind me that a prayer walk can be an ideal way to process my emotions in your presence.

Q: What does a typical writing session for you look like?

A: Total quiet so I can have laser focus. I break the chapters up into sections and take mini breaks between writing those sections to give my brain a break.

Q: Why do you write?

A: I write to help people find peace in God’s Word for every problem they are facing.

Writing Advice from Sarah Geringer

Q: What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting out?

A: Keep writing every day to find your voice. Everything you write can be repurposed later, so go ahead and start today!

Q: What’s the best piece of writing advice you ever received? How has it impacted your life?

A: Content is king, and consistency is queen. Now I run a mastermind and Facebook community for Christian creatives based on this advice.

.

Q: If you could go back and change one thing in your author career, what would it be and why?

A: Start writing consistently sooner. I blogged off and on from 2010 to 2015, and I only wish I had written consistently from the start.

Q: What is one writing resource that you couldn’t do without?

A: Platform by Michael Hyatt

Just for Fun

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why?

A: To snap my fingers and instantly have a clean house – because I’d rather be writing than cleaning!

Q: If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be and why?

A: I’d love to talk to Dicey in the YA novel, Dicey’s Song, or Brian in the book Hatchet. Now that they’re all grown up, I’d love to hear how they are doing.

Q: If you were not a writer, what would you want to be and why?

A: An artist. Writing and art are my two loves, and I hold degrees in both.

Q: What are you reading?

A: I just finished reading God Knows by Lisa Whittle – it was great!

About Hidden Manna on a Country Road: Seeing God’s Daily Provision All Around Us

Connect with God in new and unexpected ways, seeing hidden manna all around you as you learn to pray while walking outdoors. Prayer can be an intimidating mystery, even when we have practiced our faith for years. Yet God has hidden prayer prompts for us in nature, right outside our doors.

These simple treasures can inspire deep connections with God as you uncover the spiritual truths hidden inside them. Sarah Geringer discovered many prayer prompts in nature during the worldwide pandemic. On walks with her beloved dog Memphis, she spotted reasons to pray scattered all around her, like the manna God provided for Israel’s sustenance in the wilderness. His loving provision of connections via nature lifted her faith during that challenging time.

The metaphors she discovered will inspire your own prayers, whether you live in the country or the city. The beautiful truths you encounter will sustain your faith through all four seasons of the year.
