Behind the Story: His Perfect Family

His Perfect Family tells the story of Theodore McPherson and Gabrielle Wallace. Gabrielle’s in-laws want custody of her son, Caleb. To protect her son, Theo offers to marry her.

Why Does Theo Marry Gaby?

One thing I wanted for this series was for the characters to have some type of connection between them. Personally, I love reading best friend siblings’ romances, so I thought, why not have Gaby fall in love with one of Brianna’s brothers?

Since Brianna’s only single brother was Theo, the choice was obvious, but I needed a reason for them to have a connection. I don’t want to spoil it for you, so you’ll have to read the book.

Tropes in His Perfect Family

The major trope in His Perfect Family is the marriage of convenience.

What happens when two people marry for reasons other than love? How will they get past their biases or hang-ups to find true love?

His Perfect Family also has a hint of the best friend’s brother, though you won’t find the elements of that trope that you usually do. (There’s no hiding the relationship from the best friend or any sneaking around.) There may be other tropes, but I’m not telling.

Themes in His Perfect Family

One of the major themes in His Perfect Family is the importance of being a peacemaker. Many times when we experience conflict, we want to fight the person in front of us (maybe not physically). Because they’re the enemy we see, we want to head toward them, guns blaring.

But the enemy we see with our eyes is not the true enemy. This is another theme you’ll see in His Perfect Family, the idea that our enemy is not physical, so we need to change the way we fight him.

Our Heavenly Father wants us to have victory over our enemies. That’s why He gave us His armor and encourages us to put it on.

Now we’d love for this to be a one-and-done process—we put on the armor today and we’re protected for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. We have to put on the armor of God. Sometimes, several times a day. But only when we do will we have the strength and resources to withstand the evil one.
