Caught by the Sheriff

Caught by the Sheriff Review

What happens when a woman on the run decides to hide out in a small town? She gets caught by the sheriff of course!

Caught by the Sheriff

My Review of Caught by the Sheriff

Faye Donovan was on the run with her kidnapped niece at her twin sister’s request, the last thing she needed was complications or a relationship. Yet, she found herself being drawn to Carlos Ryker despite the fact that he was the town sheriff and could untangle the web of lies she had carefully woven…not to mention, put her in prison!

Carlos was immediately drawn to Faye–at first, he was just curious about the newcomer, but as time went on, he wanted to protect her from anyone who wanted to harm her.

Both Faye and Carlos were well-developed characters but I found myself wanting to know a little more about Carlos’s father to understand his backstory better. I would also have liked to see a bit more interaction between the two main characters which would have made their falling in love with each other more convincing.

The tension surrounding the whereabouts of Faye’s sister and whether Faye’s secrets would be uncovered remained taut throughout the book. I was glad when the bad guy was caught but would have wanted to know more about how events played out in the end. I did, however, really enjoy how the bad guy got what he deserved.

The characters from Almost A Bride were also featured in this story but the focus was on Carlos and the people he was close to. Still, there were enough of the beloved characters from the original cast to have the reader feel a sense of homecoming.

There was mention of an engagement and future marriage between a couple who were living an alternate lifestyle. I will reiterate my opinion that it was not something I expected when I first agreed to read this book.

Even with that, this novel is a stand-alone and the reader does not have to read the first book in the series to enjoy this story set in Turtleback Beach.

Overall, this was a fun read that had me walking away at times as the tension was so thick I needed a moment to clear my head. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publishers through Prism Book Tours; a positive review was not required. Turtleback Beach, North Carolina, would be paradise—if Faye Donovan wasn’t on the run.
