Q: What is one thing your morning can’t start without?
A: (Phillip) Silence and the Word.
(Sandra) My Phillip’s not a morning person so the best thing you can do when he wakes up is stay out of his way. After he has his time with the Lord, he’s finally ready for some conversation.
*laughs
Me, I need me some worship music before I start my time with the Lord. Always make sure I have my earpiece in or this one’s going to be a bear.
Q: If you could change one thing in the world, what would that be?
A: (Phillip) People.
*waits for him to elaborate, Sandra pats him on the leg
Sandra: What he means is that because of sin, people have done such awful things. To each other, to the earth, to God’s beautiful creatures…
*shudders
It’s sad to see.
Q: What’s your life motto?
A: (Phillip) Life is too short to waste it with people who annoy you.
Sandra: What Phillip is trying to say is that we should spend time with people who make us happy.
*Phillip gives his wife a baleful look
Isn’t that what I said?
*Sandra smiles sweetly at him.
Yes, dear.
Q: In your opinion, what is the most important personality trait someone would need to be successful in your job?
A: (Phillip) Not to judge and to keep your opinions to yourself.
Sandra: We’re dentists.
*casts a glance at her husband
Well, he’s a dentist, and I’m his assistant.
Q: Could you elaborate? What does being a dentist have to do with not judging others?
A: (Phillip) Have you ever smelled what comes out when some people open their mouths? Most people are quick to judge, assuming the person is not practicing good oral hygiene.
They don’t know sometimes the person jas other health issues.
*folds arms across chest
Don’t judge. Or if you did, keep your opinion to yourself.
Sandra: He’s right. Sometimes a person’s oral health suffers because as a child the parents didn’t have enough resources to ensure they had proper nutrition.
*shrugs
Or if they did, there was no money left for them to visit the dentist. By the time they’re adults and can take care of those things for themselves, the damage has already been done.
Q: What does your ideal work partner look like?
A: (Phillip) You’re looking at her. Knows her job, does it well, and knows when a man needs to be with his own thoughts.
Sandra: Aww, thank you, dear.
Q: What’s your source of motivation?
A: (Phillip) My family and God. Not in that order, you understand. But those two things.
Sandra: We’ve always tried to live in a manner that we believe pleases God. It’s one reason we always spend time in the Word.
When we spend time with our Heavenly Father He energizes us to do what needs to be done.
And our Gaby, she’s just the sweetest girl. Since the moment we knew she existed, she’s been our reason to do better. Now we also have our grandson…
Here, I have pictures.
*pulls out her cell phone and fiddles with it before handing it to the interviewer
Isn’t he just the cutest thing?
*leans forward
Swipe right, there are lots more.
Phillip: The woman doesn’t want to see your pictures, Sandra.
Sandra: Sorry, but isn’t he cute?
Interviewer: Yes, Mrs. Wright, your grandson is very handsome.
Sandra: Sandra, please.
*points thumb at her husband
And he’s Phillip.
Q: Do you prefer to walk around with broccoli for your arms or a salad for your head?
A: (Phillip) What kind of cockamamie question is that? Why would I want broccoli for arms or salad on my head?
God gave us hands and a head–that’s good enough for me.
She doesn’t mean it like that Phillip. It’s one of those…how do you call it?
*Sandra snaps her finger
Out-of-the-box questions.
*looks at the interviewer with an eager expression
Am I right?
Interviewer: Yes.
Phillip (grumbles under his breath) Still don’t know why I wouldn’t want the hands God gave us or the head.
