Today we’re having a conversation with Tonya McPherson. We first meet her in His Perfect Wife, but she also plays a prominent role in His Perfect Match.

Q: Introduce yourself to the readers.
A: Hi, my name is Tonya McPherson-Hall. Well, my parents called me Latonya, but I never use that name.
*laughs*
It’s much too big for me.
*gestures to her petite frame*
Q: What does your morning routine look like?
A: Before I share my morning routine, I’d like to share a little about myself. I’m a stay-at-home mom of littles—three boys under 5.
*rolls her eyes and laughs*
I was in a rush to start my family, but I don’t know what I was thinking. So, I’m a mom and a pastor’s wife. Much of my day involves corralling or organizing events and people—which is something I love. But…
If I don’t start my morning off on the right foot, I’ll be cranky all day.
I get up around 5 am so I have an hour to myself before anyone needs me. The first thing I do is that day’s Bible reading. I try to get through the Bible at least once a year, so I’ll do that.
This year I’m reading the Bible in chronological order. If I have time, I may read from a short devotional.
Once a week, our Women’s Ministries department meets online for a brief prayer session. That happens on Wednesdays between 5:30-6:00 am. On those days, I don’t always finish my reading, but the sacrifice is worth it.
I appreciate the time I spend with those ladies, as it encourages my faith.
Q: What would be the title of the book about you—if your worst enemy wrote it?
A: Pretty sure the title would be ‘Her Royal Bossiness’. Almost as certain that my sister probably already wrote it.
*laughs*
Seriously though, Brianna and I have resolved our issues so she wouldn’t write that book…
I don’t think.
The form you have selected does not exist.
Q: What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing in your role right now and how are you tackling it?
A: I think my biggest issue is creating space for me to do things that fulfill me.
*smiles*
You don’t know this about me, but I can get over-involved in the lives of the people I care about. Especially when I see them struggling. I have to work at not meddling…too much.
*winks*
The other part of that is I have to carve out time to take care of myself.
Q: What underrated tool(s) are indispensable for your job?
A: My calendar and a scheduling app.
*laughs*
I depend on those notifications to keep me on schedule.
Q: What was the last book you read? Share one lesson from it.
A: The Blessings Jar by Colleen Coble.
*grins*
I read a lot of children’s books. This one reminded me that even on a bad day, we have lots of blessings to give God thanks for.
