Counterfeit Faith, Crystal Caudill

Counterfeit Faith Review

In Counterfeit Faith, by Crystal Caudill, one woman must decide if telling the truth is worth risking her life. When Gwendolyn suspects that children are being hurt at the House of Refuge where she’s the matron, she brings her concerns to the board. She’s dismissed by all except one man who ends up dead.

When a run-in with a ruthless man almost results in her being kidnapped, she must work with someone to get justice for the children she loves.

Josiah Isaacs works with the Secret Service and agrees to help Gwendolyn investigate the happenings at the House of Refuge, especially when his own investigation into a counterfeit scheme leads to the place of refuge.

Gwendolyn’s love for the children she was responsible for shone from the page. It gave her the courage to face down her foes and sometimes her superior. I admired her courage though sometimes hoped she’d be more temperate.

Josiah’s integrity and love for his dead wife Shauna were evident from page one. When he met Gwendolyn, he wondered if this woman had the power to get him to the altar once again.

I enjoyed reading more about the green games and the role of the Secret Service at this point in history.

Also enjoyed reading as Josiah’s faith was strengthened through his interactions with Gwendolyn.

Readers of Counterfeit Faith will be reminded that they should wait on God’s perfect timing. When we push our own agendas, things rarely work out as they should.

Both Gwendolyn and Josiah had to learn this lesson as they worked to figure out who the bad guys were while deciding if a relationship between them was the right thing to do.

I enjoyed this book by Crystal Caudill. Gwendolyn had to work with Josiah, a known rake, to get justice for the children she cares for.

Josiah’s reputation as a rake resulted from his integrity as a gentleman. So when he meets Gwendolyn, he’s worried that his association with her might result in a proposal as he’s still in love with his dead wife.

Gwendolyn is immediately drawn to Josiah but several things, including her concern for the children, put barriers between them.

The two have to work together to shut down a dangerous scheme and oh, how much trouble they get into while they do.

I enjoyed both of these characters, watching as they grew in their faith as they got closer together.
