Kate has been on the run from the men who killed her husband and left her for dead—which isn’t easy considering she’s eight months pregnant—but now they’ve found her. Again. Still reeling from her late husband’s betrayal, the last thing Kate wants is the help of a handsome stranger.
Security expert, Jacob Jones, is still grieving the loss of his pregnant wife, and he’s not ready to move on. But when he thwarts an attempted abduction of the beautiful Kate, he finds himself inexplicably drawn to her.
Despite her reluctance, he’s determined to do whatever it takes to save her, including giving up his own life.
Kate’s only option is to take a leap of faith and allow Jacob to help her. But can she trust him to keep her and her unborn baby alive? Or will he fail her like everyone else in her life?
My Review of Expecting Danger
Kate had lost her faith in God when her life fell apart so when she found herself surrounded by people whose faith was an intrinsic part of them she was not amused. But Jake and his family showed her what it was like to love others without expecting anything in return.
Even as Kate wrestled with her faith, she found herself falling for the man who had rescued her while still trying to evade the men who wanted her dead.
The Characters in Expecting Danger
Kate and Jake quickly endeared themselves to us in the opening scenes. Kate is obviously brave and scared running for her life and her child’s. What I liked about her is that she wasn’t helpless. She was resourceful and smart having picked up a number of skills doe life on the run.
Jake proved himself to be decent from the beginning. He saw someone who needed help and he made himself available. He had good instincts and strong faith in God. His faith was tangible throughout the story. He was an example of someone who had hidden the Word of God in his heart and was living it out.
The Themes in Expecting Danger
One of the major themes in Expecting Danger was the presence of God. Kate felt as though God had abandoned her but when she looked back she realized He had been there all along.
Another major theme was that we are precious to God. This theme came out repeatedly in relation to Kate’s belief that she was unlovable and also in relation to the beauty of childbirth. Expecting Danger makes references to stillborn births and the loss of a spouse which may be a sensitive topic for some readers.
I enjoyed Expecting Danger, a story that was fraught with excitement and danger and the reminder that no matter our situation God is still with us.
I received an advanced reader’s copy from the publishers through Just Read Tours; a positive review was not required. Get your copy of Expecting Danger.
