Long Time Coming, Vanessa Miller

Long Time Coming Review

Long Time Coming by Vanessa Miller tells the story of two women who were on a downward path until they met each other.

Deidre Morris wants children but can’t have any. Kenisha Smalls has children but she’s dying and will soon lose them. Will these two women realize they’re the answer to each other’s prayers in time?

Okay, when I started reading this book, Kenisha was hard to take. She had a lot of attitude but the reason quickly becomes apparent. By contrast, it appeared as if Deidre had an easy life.

I liked how Ms. Miller showed that each of the characters has their own crosses to bear.

Long Time Coming was a reminder that as Christians, we need to pray about everything…even when it seems as if God is deaf to our prayers. Because ultimately, we must acknowledge that while God is capable of answering our prayers, He doesn’t have to. Nor does He need to.

We have to trust Him enough to believe He loves us and wants best for us even though He doesn’t always grant us the desires of our hearts.

Long Time Coming dealt with some heavy topics and is not light reading. It also has a bittersweet ending. However, the reminder that we should still continue to believe that God is good even when times are hard, is a reminder that every believer needs from time to time.

Readers of Long Time Coming will be reminded to pray about everything, regardless of whether we get the answer we want or not.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and enjoyed Narrator Je Nie Fleming’s portrayal of the characters.

About Long Time Coming

Deidre Clark-Morris is a faithful Christian who has everything she could dream of, except the children her heart longs for.

Kenisha Smalls has lived in poverty all her life. She has three children by three different men and has just been diagnosed with inoperable cancer.

While the meeting between these two women appears accidental, it becomes their catalyst of hope. Neither woman expects the blessing that God has in store for her.

While Deidre guides Kenisha on the path to eternal life with Jesus Christ, Kenisha teaches Deidre how to stand strong against the storms of life.
