Once Upon a Royal Summer by Teri Wilson is a sweet, clean romance that’s fairytale delicious.
My Review of Once Upon a Royal Summer
This sweet love story is a mish-mash of fairytales. Set in a theme park, the reader is brought into the make-believe world and the presence of a real prince adds to the storybook element.
The Characters in Once Upon a Royal Summer
When we first meet Lacey, it’s obvious that being a theme park princess is more than just a job to her. She really cares about the children she interacts with on a daily basis. Princess Sweet Pea is not just what she does, it’s who she is.
When we first meet Prince Henry, he’s incognito and just a little smug about Lacey’s “princess rules”. But as he spends time with Lacey, his true personality comes out and he really is a prince. (Though it could be argued that Lacey brought out the best in him).
Princess Rose was a sweet addition to the story and the way both Henry and Lacey lavished love on her showed that they would make a great family.
I also enjoyed some of the other secondary characters like Lacey’s best friend, Ava, and Madeline who masqueraded as the fairy godmother.
The Themes in Once Upon a Royal Summer
There was a subtle theme in Once Upon a Royal Summer that you should be true self wherever you are. Lacey may have been playing the part of a fairytale princess but in a lot of ways, that was her true character. She genuinely loved and cared about people. But some persons looked at her and thought she needed to “do better” than a theme park not realizing that playing the part of a theme park princess was her dream job.
Final Thoughts on Once Upon a Royal Summer
Once Upon A Royal Summer is set in two kingdoms: a fairytale kingdom and a real one and while the reader is aware of the differences between the two, the magic is woven through both settings.
This was a feel-good story. The fairytale princess meets a real prince, Prince Charming finds the “one” and a little girl gets the mother of her heart…and they all lived happily-ever-after.
I received an advanced reader’s copy from the publishers through NetGalley; a positive review was not required. Purchase Once Upon a Royal Summer on Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Lacey found her dream job: playing a princess character at a popular fairytale theme park in sunny southern Florida. Her diamond tiara might not be real, but the smiles of the children she meets every day certainly are. It’s just too bad that her ex-boyfriend was never impressed with her career choice.
Henry, the crown prince of Bella-Moritz, is trying to fulfill his young daughter’s birthday wish: to be a normal girl with a normal life. That’s why they’re pretending to be ordinary tourists at an American amusement park. Henry lost his wife four years ago, and he’s been going through the motions ever since. But could a meeting with a make-believe princess lead to real love?
