What would you do if your bodyguard was the only thing standing between you and a stalker but you hated his guts? Or, more appropriately, he gets under your skin in ways no other man ever had. This was the premise of The Truth About Fame by Toni Shiloh and it was an interesting one.
My Review of The Truth About Fame
Tori is a model who has recently had to rely on a bodyguard service because a fan had gotten it into his head that she belonged to him. As the children of two famous actors, she was used to the spotlight but having a stalker was taking it a little bit too far.
She had decided to go into hiding because her loved ones had been threatened when her bodyguard Marcel Fox gives her the perfect hideaway spot. But being in close proximity to Marcel is threatening to break down her defenses.
I chose to be a part of this book launch because I liked the premise of the story and enjoy Toni Shiloh’s writing but I didn’t expect to like Tori as much as I did. After all, we have nothing in common except for the color of our skin. But this book was easy to read and Tori, underneath all her wealth and fame, is just a woman–a woman who cares about her friends, is fearful of the future and who has lied to herself about her past.
The characters are well-written and the dialogue between the main protagonists was sharp and just snarky enough to be entertaining.
Marcel was a great leading man–strong and forceful without being brutish. He was the perfect foil for Tori who was so used to being strong she didn’t always know how to ask for or accept help.
The faith element was evident without being overpowering and the reader will be left with the reminder that God wants a place in your heart. He pursues you with an everlasting love and will fight your battles if you let Him.
I enjoyed the banter between her and Marcel because he saw her as no one else did. Let’s talk about Marcel for as second…
If you’re looking for a swoon-worthy hero this is the guy. I mean he took a bullet for her. He was protective and bold when she needed it but willing to show her the broken parts of himself. He also had a strong faith which was evident in his interactions. Marcel showed up for Tori and he kept showing up. He differentiated himself from every man she had ever known because he was different from all the guys she had known before–all he wanted from her was her heart.
The Truth About Fame is the second book in the Faith and Fortune Christian Chick-lit series but can be read as a standalone. I received an advanced reader’s copy from the publishers through Just Read Tours; a positive review was not required. Purchase your copy of The Truth About Fame.
About The Truth About Fame
My life has always been in the spotlight. Born to two famous parents and then quickly rising to “super” status in the modeling world ensured that I, Astoria “Tori” Bell, would always have my image plastered across newsstands. Unfortunately, adoring fans weren’t always magnanimous and now I have a stalker on my hands.
Oddly enough, the tall, dark, and all-too handsome bodyguard hired to protect me seems more harmful than the threatening notes from the stalker. As well as his plan to flush out the danger by proposing a fake engagement.
The lines between pretend and reality blur and I have to shore up my resolves. Baggage from my past means I can’t let myself be vulnerable. But the way Marcel Fox treats me has me thinking otherwise.
With a new rock on my finger and the man who put it there by my side, happily ever after seems like a possibility, or is that as fake as my public persona?
