Wagering for a Wife, by Kate Condie, is book three in the Bridger Brothers series. It’s the story of Petra and Sam.
Petra’s main reason for being on the trial to Oregon is to help her sister find a wife. For Petra, that means she must do her best not to attract attention. Imagine her chagrin when she attracts the attention of not one, but two, of the Bridger brothers.
She’s determined to remain unmarried and unaffected, but things don’t turn out the way she hoped.
I loved Sam. He was decent to the core, even after his experiences with the women in his hometown. His interactions with his family and others on the trail revealed his strong character.
Petra’s determination to help Demi was sometimes a hindrance, as she couldn’t see what was evident. She also believed she had to diminish herself in order for her sister to occupy the spotlight.
Petra had to learn that her needs mattered. That it was okay for her to fight for what she wanted, even though it seemed to clash with her sister’s desires.
Readers of Wagering for a Wife will be reminded that we should be ourselves. At some point, if we’re to be truly happy, we must set aside other people’s expectations and choose our own desires.
There is also the reminder that love doesn’t follow the agenda and timeline that we expect it.
If you enjoy close/forced proximity or enemies to more, check out Wagering for a Wife.
I received an advanced reader’s copy as part of the author’s launch team. A positive review was not required.

Petra Anderson’s reason for going west is not to escape her reputation as a runaway bride. She is hopeful she can use her prowess at ensnaring a man to ensure her sister gets the husband she so dearly wants. But if endeavoring to go unnoticed by men was difficult back home, it’s impossible out west where men are clamoring for wives with every turn of the wagon wheels.
The trail does not play by a wager’s rules.
When Sam’s attempts to win Petra’s heart fall flat, he must push harder or risk losing her forever when the bet expires. If Petra cannot convince Sam that she’s wrong for him, she risks losing her sister’s trust forever.

About Kate Condie
Kate Condie is a speed talker from Oregon. Reading has been part of her life since childhood, where she devoured everything from mysteries, to classics, to autobiographies—and of course, romance.
At first, her writing was purely in journal format as she thought writing novels was for the lucky ones. She lives in Utah and spends her days surrounded by mountains with her favorite hunk, their four children and her laptop.
In her free time she reads, tries to learn a host of new instruments, binge watches anything by BBC or tries to keep up with Lafayette as she sings the Hamilton soundtrack.
